Many of us are aware of the benefits of participation in sports and athletic competition. When sports programs are run with the needs and best interests of the participants in mind, there are many potential positive outcomes. An appreciation of personal health and fitness, the development of a positive self image, sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, friendship and the ability to manage success and overcome disappointment are a few that come to mind. Most importantly, a fun and enjoyable experience in sports as a youth can lead to a lifetime of participation in sports and a healthy active lifestyle as an adult.

For some, casual participation in athletic activity or competition does not provide them with complete satisfaction. For a myriad of reasons, some very inspiring and even deeply touching, they make a personal commitment to excel in their chosen sport. They overcome a number of challenges, make all the necessary sacrifices and commit their bodies to extensive training, all towards achieving their dreams of making it to the next level.

The Prospect Magazine brings visibility and recognition to those dedicated athletes, and provides the opportunity for Alberta's future prospects in sports and athletic competition to share their dreams and accomplishments.

By recognizing their efforts publicly, we hope to provide encouragement and support to those athletes who are featured, and at the same time, to the many others like them who have made the same commitment. To those of you who are considering choosing the same path as our prospects, we hope that after reading their stories, you find the inspiration needed to assist with your decision.

Above all, the entire team at the Prospect Magazine will strive to educate, enlighten and entertain you, our readers, the everyday fan of sports and athletic competition.
