John Short
From a young 15-year-old copy boy for the Globe and Mail in Toronto, to his recent induction in to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, John's many years of contribution to the sports industry have earned him the reputation of being one of Canada's most renowned and respected sports journalists. John has reported for the Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Sun on everything from the Stanley Cup to the Grey Cup, from golf to cricket, tennis to lacrosse and everything in between. For 25 years, John also found time to host the popular radio show, Sports Talk. John has been the recipient of several awards for his coverage on amateur and university sports. In recent years, John has written a regular Sunday column in the Edmonton Sun. He also covers ameteur sports and horse racing on a weekly basis.
Ryan Frankson
Ryan began his journalism career while attending Grant MacEwan College. He covered MacEwan Griffins college athletics for the school newspaper and was the paper's sports editor in his final year. His internship was spent at the Edmonton Sun covering the Edmonton Cracker-Cats Baseball Club, World Masters Games, as well as writing weekly features on future prospects in sports. Upon completion of school, Ryan was hired as a full-time sports editor at the Saint City News in St. Albert where he covered high school sports, junior hockey, collegiate baseball and world class rugby for close to two years. Ryan has recently moved back to his home town and was hired on as a sports reporter and photographer for the Sherwood Park - Strathcona County News and is now the associate editor.
Jim Kerr
Jim is a sports-loving Albertan who has been writing about what he loves in one form or another since about 2003. He “officially” became a journalist in 2007 and has been plying his trade in Edmonton ever since. Jim grew up playing hockey, roller hockey and soccer at various levels around the city and has a stash of medals to prove it, thanks mainly to great teammates, of course. He looks forward to being a great teammate and regular contributor to Prospect Magazine!
Geoffrey Driscoll
Geoff has had a love of journalism ever since he was a paperboy for the Edmonton Journal at age 12. Growing up, he played sports like volleyball, basketball, ice hockey, roller hockey and even badminton. He decided to go to journalism school after spending five seasons as a forest firefighter with the Alberta Government. In school he covered events like the Women's World Cup of Rugby, which whet his appetite for sports reporting. His internship and subsequent position at the Stony Plain Reporter and Spruce Grove Examiner allowed him to cover different hockey, football, baseball and golf events around the Parkland County area. He is looking forward to contributing to Prospect Magazine as a way to further his love of sports journalism.
Tim Dancy
For the past 33 years, Tim has reported extensively on amateur and professional sports, primarily as a television and radio broadcaster in the Edmonton area. As the former television play-by-play voice of the Edmonton Oilers and the Edmonton Trappers, Tim now serves Shaw TV Sports as producer, host and play-by-play announcer for the Edmonton Rush, Edmonton Cracker-Cats and CIS Football. As one of our city's most recognizable faces in sports broadcasting, Tim is admired by not only his viewing/listening audience, but by his fellow broadcasters and reporters for his outstanding contribution to sports reporting in our city. He brings to the Prospect Magazine his passion and love of amateur sports along with his experience and ability to interview athletes in a friendly and professional manner.
Jeremy Freeborn
Jeremy became a huge fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos while sitting on his grandma's knee when he was six years old. He soon would get interested in a wide variety of sports such as baseball, tennis, basketball and the Olympic movement. Throughout high school, he worked as a tour guide at the Olympic Hall of Fame and Museum in Calgary. He has completed a practicum at TSN Sportscentre in Toronto, and has worked for the FAN 960 in Calgary and as an editor and sports writer for GO! Magazine in southern Alberta. Jeremy's younger brother Geoff, played baseball for the St. Albert Cardinals and Sherwood Park Athletics in various major tournaments before playing with the Canadian National Junior Baseball Team in 1999 and the Calgary Vipers from 2006-08. Jeremy looks forward to recognizing outstanding Canadian athletes through Prospect Magazine.
